Take Home a Memory

The Local Arrangements Committee for AFS 2005 is shamelessly offering a variety of memorabilia for purchase at the Anchorage meeting. We are using some of the unique fish artwork Ray Troll has created for the 2005 meeting poster in the design of some gifts and memories of your trip to Anchorage.

Chocolate Lover?

Theobroma means "Food of the Gods" in Latin…and Theobroma Chocolate Company in Sitka , Alaska makes some of the finest chocolate products you'll ever taste. We've teamed up with Theobroma to produce a special AFS chocolate bar to commemorate the 2005 annual meeting! Yes, an AFS chocolate bar. Well, actually two chocolate bars, one milk chocolate and another dark chocolate. The wrappers feature Ray Troll's wonderful art. With all the talk of the health advantages to eating dark chocolate, you'll certainly want to partake in this tasty treat and maybe take home a bunch for Christmas presents.

Coffee or Tea Drinker?

Yes? Then you'll certainly want to take a look at the special hand-made pottery mugs we're producing to commemorate the 2005 meeting. Featuring a swimming school of Ray Troll 's rockfishes, this mug is certain to be a collector's item. These mugs are hand-thrown by potter Tom Meyer in Juneau . They will be a very limited edition, so grab one early in the meeting.

 

 

 

Another Pin?

Do I really need another fish pin? You bet, at least the 2005 AFS meeting pin. Developed from Ray Troll's halibut art and crafted by William Spear Design in Juneau , this small, beautiful gold pin is just waiting to be pinned to your lapel, jacket or sweater, or tie.

 

 

 

T-shirts

What would an AFS meeting be like without a t-shirt for sale? It just wouldn't be right. So as to not disappoint you, we again will feature an “official” AFS 2005 t-shirt. The t-shirts will feature Ray Troll's magnificent poster art for the 2005 meeting, and will be sold by students to benefit student programs. Be sure to pick one up – they are incredibly colorful and will be treasured for years to come.

Fishes of Alaska

Published in 2002, the authoritative book “Fishes of Alaska” authored by Catherine W. and T. Anthony Mecklenburg and Lyman K. Thorsteinson will be offered to AFS 2005 attendees for a special price. Originally priced at $129 for nonmembers and $90 for members, AFS will sell this book to all buyers at a meeting price of $60 – but only at the Anchorage meeting, cash and carry! All biologists, ichthyologists, taxonomists, and naturalists should have this book in their libraries.
