EXCOM Teleconference Minutes

Report (Monica and Dave Zafft)
- Current Balances:
still working on due to deposit problems at Mountain America, but we have
plenty of $$ due to the success of the 2004 annual meeting J
- 2004 Annual
Meeeting
- Proceeds approximately
$60K--$20K to the Division and each Chapter
2005 Annual
Meeting (Tim and Eric)
- $25-30K in monies
raised so far
- The Hilton will
be the meeting headquarters
- Native Alaska
Heritage Center Social (blanket toss, dogsledding, etc), student socials
- Program—Approximately
12-15 symposia topics proposed already.
- Meeting will
be combined with Wakefield Fisheries Symposium, Parent Society, Alaska Chapter,
and Western Division
- Anticipating
1500-200 people in attendance
- The Division
has verbally agreed to assist in fundraising that will work with the local
arrangements fundraising committee. A committee was supposed to be formed
to assist with these efforts, and the Alaska Chapter has already done a superb
job in fundraising on the local level. Eric proposed that we create such a
committee.
- An MOU also
needs to be developed for the meeting
- Larry Peltz
(Alaska) is developing a meeting budget
- Fundraising
(Bill)
- Don and
Bill will co-chair this effort. Bob Hughes will also be included in the
effort.
- Target for
2004 annual meeting would be 50K from the Division
- Funds raised
during the upcoming fall fundraising fishing trip will not be included
in the fundraising effort for the meeting
2006 Annual Meeting
- The Universities
are really the only locations that would serve such a large meeting, Bozeman
seemed the best location to the Chapter.
- LeAnne has
contacted the University in Bozeman regarding prices for the second week
in May, 2006.
- Co-chair for
the meeting planning will be the upcoming president-elect, who will be elected
during the next elections (next February).
New Business
- Newsletter (Mark
Brouder)
- First call
for June newsletter! June 18 th is the deadline!! Mark is putting a list
together of potential topics, and will forward that on to Tom.
- First call
for Alaska meeting will be in September.
- Outstanding
Chapter Award
- This year’s
winner for the Division—Colorado/Wyoming. Congratulations!!
- 4 th World Fisheries
Congress (Eric and Joe)
- The Division
set up a booth with Stan Gregory, Katheryn, Joe, and Eric attending the
booth. They sold some hats and t-shirts, but got stopped by customs and
had to pay import taxes on them!
- The Division
hosted a reception that was relatively poorly attended, in fact, we didn’t
even know we were going to host it!
- The Division’s
major role was as sponsor of the Large Rivers Symposia
- Mexico Chapter
Formation (Eric)
- The La Paz
Symposium will be held next May
- Mexican counterparts
have the support of their agencies, and have started the paperwork to become
an official Chapter.
- Cutthroat Trout
Documentary (Eric and Tom)
- Bruce and
Eric talked and the group will have a teleconference next week. Steve at
KUSM will need to be contacted regarding the current events with MFWP and
the Division…….we’ll keep everyone posted.
- WDAFS Fundraising
Retreat (Bill)
- October 8
th – 11 th flyfishing retreat in British Columbia
- Klamath River
Committee (Monica and Dave)
- We have recruited
several new members and will be holding a conference call on the morning
of May 27 th.
- Greater Portland
Chapter demise (Tom)
- Tom has been
informed via email by the former Secretary/Treasurer (Richie Graves) that
the Chapter has not held elections for 3 years and the author of the email
has “folded up his tent” and is focusing his efforts on the
Oregon Chapter
- Pallid Sturgeon
Draft Review Report Update (Jack Williams)
- A draft has
been sent out to the Executive Committee, Environmental Concerns, and Policy
Review Committee but the committee has not heard much about the document.
- Next, the
draft document will be sent to the Upper Basin workgroup
- Lamprey Review
Committee (Monica)
- Monica has
contacted Shawn Chase and will talk to him more on May 19 th. There are
questions about whether a committee is needed, and what the focus would
be.
- WDAFS Bylaws
Revision (Joe)
- The Revisions
are waiting for revisions by the Executive Committee, but Tom hasn’t
sent them out to the rest of us! Joe will forward them to Tom again, and
he will forward them to the ExCom. Comments should be back to Joe by June
1 st and he will forward them to Mark to be published in the next newsletter.
- Ad Hoc Committee’s
Protocol/Procedures Update (Don)
- Tom will forward
the ExCom these procedures and we need to have comments back to him by June
1 st.
