The mission of the Eugene Maughan Graduate Student Scholarship Committee is to administer the annual WD AFS graduate student scholarship program dedicated in Eugene Maughan's name.

2007 2007 Application Procedures for the Eugene Maughan Graduate Student Scholarship - The application package should be sent (postmarked) no later than May 25, 2007
2004 We have completed our evaluations of graduate students for the 2004 WDAFS scholarships. There were 15 applicants (10 MS and 5 PhD) that represent 7 different institutions in 5 states. This group was not a diverse as some years; however, the quality, especially for Masters' students, was very high. The choice was extremely difficult; this was an outstanding group of students! The winners are:

All members of the committee have agreed to remain active for another year. This year I failed to replace Bret Johnson (who resigned), but I will find another committee member for next year. I will also have an updated (for 2005) scholarship announcement shortly after the annual meeting.

2003 We have completed our ratings of graduate students for 2003. There were 20 applicants (8 MS and 12 PhD) that represent 13 different institutions in 10 states and 1 Canadian Province. This may be the most diverse group yet! The choice was extremely difficult; this was an outstanding group of students! The winners are:

This year the Western Division Graduate Scholarship committee consisted of David Beauchamp, Brett Johnson, George LaBar, Peter Moyle and myself (chair).  There were 17 applicants.  Three recipients were selected to each receive $1,000.  They were Ph.D. students, Christine May (Oregon State University) and Darin Simpkins (University of Wyoming) and master's student, Julie Scheurer (Colorado State University).
