Candidate Statement for WD AFS Secretary/Treasurer (2001 elections) Chuck McAdaBackground — I earned a BS from the University of Arizona in 1974 and a MS from Utah State University in 1978. Both degrees are in Fishery Management. I began working for the US Fish and Wildlife Service in 1978 and have been stationed in Salt Lake City and Vernal, Utah and Grand Junction, Colorado. Most of my work has involved research and management of four endangered fish species native to the upper Colorado River basin. I currently serve as the Assistant Project Leader of a field station responsible for management activities in the states of Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico. The station also operates a hatchery that raises endangered fish for reintroduction into the rivers of the upper basin. AFS involvement — I joined the American Fisheries Society in 1974 and became a life member in 1982. I was chairman of the Threatened Fishes Committee for the Bonneville Chapter in 1979 and served as President Elect, President and Past President of that chapter in the early 1980s. I served as a session organizer for the Western Division’s 1985 annual meeting in Snowmass, Colorado. I am currently a member of the Colorado/Wyoming Chapter. Serving the Western Division as Secretary-Treasurer will give me a good opportunity to further serve the American Fisheries Society and learn more about the chapters and individuals it represents.
