Candidate Statement for WD AFS Nominating Committee Reprsentative (2001 elections)

Henry Booke

Background -- I worked for the NY Dept. of Environmental Conservation as a Conservation Research Biologist for 5 years, as a research biologist for the US Fish and Wildlife Service for 20 years, and for the U.S. Geological Service, Biological Service Division for 10 years. During these periods, I also worked at the Univ. of Michigan, Yale Univ., Boston Univ., Univ. of Wisconsin/Stevens Point, and the Univ. of Massachusetts. I received my degree training at Cornell Univ. (B.S.), Michigan State Univ. (M.S.), and the Univ. of Michigan (Ph.D.).

AFS Involvement -- I have been a member of the American Fisheries Society since 1960. I served as a Chapter President (Wis.), Division President (Northeastern Div.) and on many committees over the years. My recent efforts for the Society have been directed at developing approaches to fiscal stability for the National and Northeastern and Western divisions. I have assisted in managing portfolios for these units.  A new phase of work for me is learning to be a tree farmer in Southern Oregon. I also have come back to Chapter activities by being the Education/Outreach Committee Chairman for the Oregon Chapter. I enjoy working for our Society.
