About Spokane

The city of Spokane, rich in historical, cultural and geological landmarks, provides an ideal backdrop for the conference, Toward Ecosystem-Based Management: Breaking Down the Barriers in the Columbia River Basin and Beyond. Spokane is located amid a landscape of uncommon variety. Within an hour's drive from the heart of the city, visitors can find a high country lake, a lonesome patch of desert, and almost anything in between. Forests, fast-running rivers and lakes by the dozens share space with great rolling waves of wheat fields and geologically important rock formations.

Spokane is also representative of the themes of this workshop. This area is characterized by spectacular natural beauty, but also faces resource management challenges that are similar to those facing many other communities within the Columbia Basin. Please contact the Spokane Visitors Information Center (Phone: 509-747-3230; Fax: 509-744-3343).for more information on the recreational opportunities available in this area.
